About

Biography

Hi, my name is Jonathan Perkins, but you can call me JP. I'm a Software Engineer at Parsons Corporation living in Baltimore, MD. I am currently collaborating with a team building an engine to optimize neural networks, and researching UI/UX methods for displaing results. I have built a fully functioning web application with user authentication using React with TypeScript in the frontend and FastAPI with Python and SQL in the backend. This app has a dashboard that provides end users the ability to configure the network optimizaiton pipeline and receive real-time progress updates as the models are analyzed, optimized, and benchmarked. I have also written REST APIs for user authentication, model optimization parameters, workflows, and metrics.

I am also a former student at the University of Alabama at Birmingham where I studied computational physics with minors in computer science and mathematics. There I reasearched machine learning applications in signal processing to determine locations and causes of energy material degredation. I have also worked in a Software Developer role at DarkTower.

As a recipient of the NASA Alabama Space Grant Consortium award, I graduated with distinguished honors and received a 3.75 GPA. I have built five web sites from scratch, programmed tools to expedite web scraping and combat fraud, trained more than 40 ML models, and written eleven algorithm benchmarks in four different languages. I have a lot of fun solving complex problems and am passionate about building new technologies, particularly for improving our understanding of the world and mitigating our negative impacts.

When I'm not behind a computer screen, I enjoy spending time with my partner, Ruby, walking my dog, Marlowe, creating music, cooking, and learning foreign languages.
